History of Calania

We speak now of the year 1044 after the Great Flood. Little is known about Calania's history. Only a few temples and old ruins are left from the old days. There are not many written documents left about Calania's history. Most of them were lost during the Great Flood. This explosion of natures forces, destroyed nearly three quarters of Calania's population at that time. The survivors, who lived in the south-eastern part of Calania, roamed all over the land, after the land recovered of this wrath of nature. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and Goblins all claimed a piece of the land, and lived in tribes.

In the eighth century after the Great Flood, many Tribal wars were fought over pieces of land, and resources. The land was torn by bloody battles and chaos. Dwarves and Elves were at war, mainly fighting Humans, and wandering Orc tribes made the south of Calania a dangerous place to be. Every one fought for his own territory, and claimed the lands of his neighbors. This was indeed a dark period in the young history of Calania. But black clouds gathered above this torn land.

Humans, being greedy of nature and low on resources, looked Eastward, to the wealth and riches of the Dwarves in the Neg'Rak mountains. They wanted the Ores and jewels, which were plentiful in the Dwarf mines. Humans declared war on the Dwarves, and the most bloody period of all times was here. Over many decades the war was fought, killing hundreds' of thousands' on both sides. The Dwarves were fewer in numbers, but the fact that they lived in the mountains, and had these natural defenses, made it impossible for the Human race to conquer them.

After many years of bloody battle, and many losses the Human leaders asked Bjordann for help. Bjrodanns' King made a pact, and sent many mercenaries and adventurers to their aid. Elves had kept to their own affairs for many years, but when the humans raided and plundered the Elf cities, during their longtime warfare, they got involved in the wars and made a pact with the Dwarves. Human armies, now had to fight a war on two fronts. When "Shurlack the Bloody", an Orc King offered his aid to the humans, it looked like a good solution for their problems at the time. But Orcs can never be trusted. Shurlacks' plan was to use the human armies to conquer the Dwarves. If this plan succeeded he would enslave the humans, and take the riches of the Dwarf mines to himself.

Under Shurlacks' lead, many Orc tribes gathered to "Aid" the humans, to crush the Elves and Dwarf alliance. The Orcs were great in numbers, and a constant flow of Orc reinforcements came from Ondolar (in the South East). The Elves and Dwarf alliance wouldn't  hold for a long time. Because Orcs are used to live in the mountains and are used to harsh conditions, the human leaders gave Shurlack the order to go to the Neg'Rak mountains and dispose of the Dwarves who were hiding there. This was what Shurlack was waiting for. This was right up his ally, now he could take hold of the riches of the dwarf mines, without too much trouble.

There was only one garrison of human warriors left in the valley near Kell'Car. Their leader, Ashligard, saw the massive Orc armies coming. He had figured out Shurlacks' plans, and wanted to make a stand. He placed his army between the Gorge of Kell'Car (the only entrance to the Neg'Rak mountains) and the advancing Orcs. Alron the Dwarf Leader, heard about this move, from a messenger who was sent by a Dwarf officer at the front. Very impressed by this display of human courage, Alron decided that he couldn't leave this human army to be slaughtered. He sent a messenger to Ashligard, bringing "Elrandir", the Flaming Blade as a gift.
