Dwarfs:

Dwarfs are a short and stumpy race. They live mostly in the Neg'Rak mountains and the plains and Hills towards center Calania. They are gifted miners and famed craftsmen. They are known for their love for gold and jewelry and for beautifully decorated Artworks. They are known to be extremely good Blacksmiths and are feared warriors. They are also stubborn and thickheaded, which is the reason why they are not so popular amongst other races in Calania. But if you are on good terms with a Dwarf, you can't imagine a better companion.
They are known to be very loyal and are fearless in battle. They dislike all things that have to do with Magic, wizards and sorcerers above all. They also hate water (except for drinking and bathing) and boats. Horses and pony's are also a thing they don't like. Their alignment goes from Good to Evil (although rare).
Professions: Warrior or Ranger, sometimes a Thief (but not a skilled as humans).

Halflings:

There's not much known about Halflings. They seem to be there, but are seldom seen. The few Halflings to be recorded in history are not of a heroic fashion.
Professions: The only recorded profession of Halflings is Thief.

This section gives you an idea about the monsters that roam Calania. Most of them are quite common, and familiar to anyone who knows his Fantasy stuff.  But hey, you'll know what you're up against.

Spiders/Bats/Bears/Wolfs and other beasts:

Spiders are crawling creatures with 8 legs (Hey, What's new ?). Most of them are poisonous and have a nasty bite. They're not strong, but have the element of surprise (You don't hear them coming, 'till it's too late). An experienced adventurer always caries an antidote or two in his backpack. Bats are mostly found in caves and dark, damp areas. Not that strong, but strong in numbers. They can give you a nasty surprise if you disturb their rest. Wolfs hunt in packs and are relatively strong (and not only by their number). They are found in the woods and hills of Calania. Don't stumble into them or you're in for a nasty fight. Bears are mostly solitary, but sometimes you'll bump into a female bear with her cubs. She'll do anything to protect them, so try to get out of their way. Good tree climbing skills are a must if you encounter a bear or two. Most animals react on instinct, so you can't blame them. Try to avoid them, and you'll have some adventuring days left for the future.

Goblins:

Goblins are related to Orcs. They are even dumber, but aren't as fearless as their bigger cousins, Orcs often use them as a kind of slaves, to do their bidding. Goblins don't seem to mind, and are often seen in Orc mines (mostly left by Dwarfs) to dig for Ore and other useful things. They also attack in large packs and are often seen in the company of Orcs. Goblins are heroic in large numbers, but flee if they see their chances turn. They are not known to practice the Magic Arts.
